Igby Goes Down

1. The “Catcher in the Rye” for today’s illiterate, ADD-stricken generation;

2. Another movie where Amanda Peet shows her tits;

3. NOT about oral-sex.
"Igby Goes Down" is about Igby Slocumb, a rebellious and sarcastic seventeen year-old boy, at war with the oppressive world of his East Coast "old money" family. With a schizophrenic father, a self-absorbed, distant mother, and a shark-like young Republican big brother, Igby figures there must be a better life out there, and he sets out to find it. After happily flunking out of several Prep Schools, Igby escapes into the bohemian underworld of Manhattan. His darkly comic trip--shared by a deviant cast of characters, including his terminally bored, part-time lover Sookie, his Godfather's trophy mistress Rachel, and smack-dealing performance artists Russel--veers from bizarre to tragic in Igby's ultimately noble attempt to keep himself from "going down." Plus, Amanda Peet, as per the usual, shows her tits.

The dissillusioned, self-infatuated protaganist of the 2002 movie Igby Goes Down, very losely based on the book Catcher In the Rye.

You can use it to describe an intelligent, cynical member of the priveleged class rebelling againt the pretention and hypocrisy of his upbringing to prevent from going crazy, but only through his own pretention and hypocrisy. Ultimately loveable though.
Kip fancies himself an Igby...he's gonna get expelled by the end of freshmen year if he doesnt stop breaking windows in the dorm.

West Midlands slang word for rockers, bikers, greasers etc. In the late 1980s it was used by the UK music press to refer to a specific scene centered around the bands Pop Will Eat Itself and Crazyhead. The term never found favour with readers of 'the inkies' (Sounds, Melody Maker and the still extant NME) and was soon dropped. Now often used in predominantly working-class areas of the midlands and the north to mean someone who listens to rock-derived music and/or dresses in a manner that suggests they affiliate themselves with rock music of some kind.
