A mental health condition typically characterized by impaired social skills, obsessive interests, repetitive behaviors, and stimming. The spectrum is famously gigantic, and each individual with autism is different. Most people with this condition aren’t savants although some are. Some people with this condition “pass” as not having it as there’s symptom overlap between autistic people non-autistic people.
Hans Asperger was the first psychologist to have observed autism. He thought of it as a neurological difference to be respected. Leo Kanner took credit for his work and introduced a harsher view of autism.
This culminated in autism being thought of as childhood “psychosis” that resulted from bad parenting. Many people believe that autism rates have been increasing when, in fact, autism diagnosis has only been increasing because of the changing medical model.

Autism covers a broad spectrum of different kinds of disorders, including ADHD ADD and Asperger's Syndrome . Autism is not a disease, but it can be passed on to future generations genetically. Note: A common misconception about Autism is when people automatically affiliate it with things such as mental retardation or Down Syndrome, in which no they are not the same kind of disorder.
Unrelated note: A lot of people in this community apparently want to constantly remind you that autism is not an insult. Any word or term used to mildy or aggressively offend someone is an insult. Take this from a person who has high-functioning Asperger's. -Higher level of intelligence
-Great levels of determination
-Strong sense of uniqueness/resilient to influence by the masses
It is thrown around as an insult by small minds on Minecraft servers and many other games. It's quite funny to consider they are shunning the existence of what gave them Minecraft & the thing they play Minecraft on, a true 200 IQ play my special Ed NT friend.
Calling things or people this without any real understanding of the term makes you look like a bigger retard than we could ever hope to be, please stop for your own sake.

A learning disorder that some people get from a family (there’s a lot of people in the world that don’t know there autistic until they know for themselves) there also could be people that are non-verbal and other stuff as well
