South Vancouver

A condescending or occasionally lighthearted nickname for Portland, Oregon, which lies to the south across the state border from Vancouver, Washington, and which together form the Portland Metro area. Typically used by Vancouverites, who can consider themselves to live in a suburb of the city. Sometimes used when referencing right-wing attitudes or activities taking place in Portland, as Vancouver is known to be significantly more conservative than Portland.

Jim: "Sounds great! Everything in this town closes way too early."

Down South

Many people living in Northern Ireland refer to places across the Irish border as " down South." Ireland consists of thirty two counties. Northern Ireland is known as The Six Counties and the remaining twenty six counties are now known as Ireland. People who do not live in one of the thirty two counties of Ireland have difficulty understanding the Irish situation.

When the new International Rugby season commences many people from Northern Ireland head Down South to Dublin to watch the matches at Lansdowne Road.

A phrase made famous by Coolbreeze of the Dungeon Family. Became even more recognized, when the GOODIEMOB made a song out of it. The Dirty South meaning that everything isn't as cool as it seems in the South. Its dirty, there's a lot of struggling and bad things going on down here.
