Anti-Mainstream

There are people out there who have a dislike for mainstream. Some hate it, some can tolerate it but not really prefer it. Many people ask why some people hate mainstream. Some reasons are that some people what to be different. But, in other cases it's just that mainstream things get boring. You hear some songs play on the radio on repeat and you get tired of it. Everyone listens to it, everyone knows the words, so it just becomes..well..un-original. Some people like things that aren't popular because they feel more freshened out. For example, when you are a fan of a widely known celebrity, you have many people screaming that they're that persons number one fans. You have the haters and all the mix up you see on the media. When it comes to lesser known artists, their music is more heard, you know what i mean? You won't usually see their fans fighting and etc because the fans are really alla bout the music. Okay it's really hard to explain, but i'll try to wrap it up in a few sentences. Mainstream can get boring, used and un-original. Some people do't mind that, but others rather a more unique view on things. When it comes to clothing most anti-mainstream shoppers would get their clothes from thrift shops, maybe even hot topic and lesser known stores instead of Urban Outfitters or Aeropostale. I hope this makes more sense.
Anti-Mainstream is when your not into/against mainstream or widely popular things. Like when you rather the band SmallPools over One Direction. And when you rather the movie Killing Daddy instead of Insidious.

mainstream rapper

A hip hop artist commonly grouped by stereotypes such as:

Wearing skinny jeans
Talking about guns, drugs, and hoes
Being ignorant

In reality, a mainstream rapper is just someone on a major label who gets radio play and sells a lot of records.

Truthfully, a lot of mainstream rappers suck, and mainstream rappers who are good are generally considered "underground" even if they run the radio.
Guy1: I liked Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP CD, but then he became a mainstream rapper.

Guy2: He was always mainstream, the MMLP sold 1.1 million in the first week!

Mainstream Fag

People that conform to 'new' trends that are viewed as 'cool'. In return these people are accepted by acting like one in the crowd of unoriginal 'self' social ruling and ignorant people. This is mostly seen in High School where only certain looks and trends of music are conceived 'cool'. This leads to unoriginal one minded thinking. These people have no personality of their own other than how well they adapt to mainstream culture.
Look at Selene, she's trying way too hard to be a "mainstream fag".. Dressing like Lady GaGa.

Mainstream rap

I won't lie to you. 99.9 percent of mainstream rap DOES suck. And coming from a rap fan, that's saying something. It's people like 50 Cent who are promoting stereotypes of rap-talkin' all that shit about hoes, money, drugs and takin' people to the candy shop. They're ruining a great music genre.
Mainstream rap sucks, but you can always listen to Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West or Mos Def.

Minstrelsy

Minstrel performance was one of the first beginnings of African American theater although it was not to sensitive on the content it became popular due to the fact that Europeans thought it was entertainment to see blacks typecast as lazy, stupid, Manish, wild, serving them and going out of their way to please their “boss” or “massa”. Although the minstrel shows were extremely popular, being consistently packed with families from all walks of life and every ethnic group, they were also very controversial. Racial integrationists labeled the production as falsely showing happy slaves while at the same time making fun of them, segregationists thought such shows were disrespectful of social norms, portrayed runaway slaves with sympathy and would undermine the race.
The typical minstrel performance followed a three-act structure. The troupe first danced onto stage then exchanged wisecracks and sang songs. The second part featured a variety of entertainments, including a pun-filled stump speech. The final act consisted of a slapstick musical plantation skit or a send-up of a popular play. Minstrel songs and sketches featured several stereotype characters, most popularized the slave and the dandy. These were further divided into sub-archetypes such as the mammy, her counterpart the old darky, the provocative mulatto wench, and the black soldier.
These buffoonish caricatures of African-Americans help support the notion of black inferiority. It’s hard for people who are close minded to reconcile the existence of a Barack Obama. American pop culture has presented us with varying depictions of black figures, families, and lifestyle. Some have been met with harsh criticism while others have been heralded as groundbreaking. In the 1970’s there was “Sanford & Son,” “Good Times,” “What’s happening?” and “The Jefferson’s.” The 1980’s saw “The Cosby Show” shake up the way in which blacks were presented on television by giving us a middle class, educated black family. Ultimately several clones diluted the effect “Cosby” had. During the 1990’s, the portrayal of blacks on television entered a dismal wasteland of bad sitcoms (“Homeboys in Outer Space,” “The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer”) where blacks were reduced to goofy sidekicks. This is where revered director Spike Lee, no stranger to race and controversy, takes his aim in Bamboozled. In the movie, Lee satirizes the entertainment industry and their tactics as well as the portrayals and perceptions of blacks in entertainment including Minstrelsy. Lee’s Bamboozled is an attempt at satire that misfires in the eyes of critics and, as a result, is a piece that is viewed as racist. The movie was very raw and uncut and Lee took to the extremes to get his point across.
