(noun) a childhood game, in which there is a “buzz” digit chosen, and players must avoid saying any number containing that digit.
The game must have
two or more players and they say numbers in numerical order, one after the other at a fast pace, and when a prohibited number is reached, the player(s) must say “BUZZ” and the following player(s) must keep the numerical sequence going. EXAMPLE: If “2” is the “BUZZ” number and there are three players — P1 “1”; P2 “BUZZ”; P3 “3”; P1 “4”; P2 “5”; P3 “6”; P1 “7”; P2 “8”; P3 “9”; P1 “10”; P2 “11”; P3 “BUZZ”; P1 “13“; so on and so forth… The saying of numbers in numerical order keeps going until all but one player is eliminated. Elimination happens if you say a prohibited number, a number out of sequence (because you lost
track of count), or you took too
long to say your number. This game is usually
played to overcome
boredom and/or on long road trips.
It’s
super challenging when the BUZZ number is “1”; the first person to
go forgets to NOT start off with “One” or there’s an elimination somewhere between 10 and
19. And god forbid you get to the 100s!
