A clothing article that's worn about the hips, waist, or whatever: usually to hold your pants up. However, belts may also be used as weapons, and instruments of suicide, similar to a noose, though I'm not sure which moron would do that.

They confiscated the prisoner's belt to ensure he wouldn't hang himself with it, so they could kill him before he could take his own life.
