The trash-hole of the south. Right next to Gulfport, MS, full of skanks and potheads. Never date a girl from Long Beach. It would most definitely be the biggest mistake of your life.
1:Dude, let's go to Long Beach and smoke a joint with Brandon.
2:Hell no! We might just catch a disease just being in Long Beach. tell that fucker to catch a ride over here.

Get the go longmug. The best place to live in the world. Yes, I will admit there are some snobby rich people and from my town probably 25% of the population is rich and snobby. But if you're saying that we are terrible because we live here and think we're better than everyone. Total lie. You don't see us running around in New Jersey telling everyone how great we are...and furthermore we are not bad people because we live here...I was born and raised in a preppy town on the North Shore and I am proud...next time you want to go accusing Long Islanders, come talk to us, we're really not that terrible. Yes, there are always the drunk teenagers running around, and if you go down a main road at about 2 in the morning your bound to see about 30 15-18 year olds just going insane. But thats how it is here I'm sure we're not the only place in the world that does that. Life in Long Island is awesome... If you're trying to "diss" us well than you are just jealous that you don't drive a Jeep Wrangler, or BMW, or GMC Yukon, or Range Rover, out to a summer house in the Hamptons where you go to parties and have an awesome time. I don't have anything against any other part of the world or country, but coming from a person who lives in Long Island, I hope you get your facts right next time.

Get the Long Islandmug. in southern New York State, along with New York City. Nassau and Suffolk make up psuedo-long island, which techincally not part of the city. But most of nassau and western suffolk have the same culture and same or close "new york minute" feeling(rush hour for example). After all most of the skilled workforse for the city comes from the island, and its the money those people bring home that keeps long islands economy strong.
Most of long island is suburbs, from the town of brookhaven in suffolk to the queens border. Some of the areas are more urban than others, and some completely urban(spots in nassau, for example). Ask anyone, either they or their parents have lived in the city at one point in recent history; people move to get into more suburban atomosphere and to be closer to the beaches.
And to clear the "New Yorker" term up. "New Yorker" comes from "NEW YORK City" not New York State, so it refers to people in the city. Since Long Island is so closely connected with teh city, both culturly and geographically (brooklyn and queens are on long island), Long Islanders are also called New Yorkers (except for the east enders who stay in their shells and never go west). While out of staters can call people from upstate New Yorkers, its because they dont know the area well. Upstate is completely different than downstate, its more like pennsylvania, and doesnt embrase the "New York" atmosphere.

Get the long islandmug. An Island right outside of NYC. It consist of yes Brooklyn and Queens, but it is better known for Nassau and Suffolk. Nassau has a higher crime rate than suffolk. Suffolk has many beaches, but is too suburban and in my opinion boring to live. Wyandanch in Suffolk County, is yes poor but DEFINATLEY not the hood. But places in Nassau tend to to be more Urban and more hood. Not as hood as places in NYC, but for Long Island these are definatley hoods. Roosevelt, Hempstead, and Freeport. And that's about it. Roosevelt known for one of America's most famous rap groups Public Enemy, which is well known and respected. Also the famous doctor J. Though Hempstead and Freeport are the hood, Roosevelt is one of the only full black communtiy's on Long Isalnd, and a little hispanic.
I don't feel like giving an example, so I'll just put the word in so they'll accept it. Long Island.
