jy bak pies

jy bak pies, verb (Afrikaans slang)
Pronunciation: yay buck pees

Meaning:
A playful or sarcastic phrase used to call someone out for being slow, wasting time, or being incompetent. Literally translates to “you bake pies,” but it’s not about actual baking — it’s said when someone is dragging their feet, slacking off, or just not doing what they’re supposed to.

Origin:

Comes from South African Afrikaans slang. The humor comes from the random literal meaning — baking pies — being used to mock someone for being slow or useless, as if they’re off baking instead of getting things done.
“Bru, jy bak pies! We’ve been waiting the whole day.”

“Stop standing around, jy bak pies.”

“He said he’d fix it an hour ago… still busy? Jy bak pies.”
