sign night

A 21st birthday party where the birthday-person is given a thick paper sign. The front side of the sign is designed to include things iconic to the person alongside with the name of the party. The back side has a handwritten list of 21 dares, which are usually drinking or dancing related. Dares are meant to be completed that night, typically at a bar.

Sign nights also typically involve custom stickers, with a design that embarrasses the birthday-person, being given away to attendees to commemorate the celebration.
Sign nights typically have a theme which can be reinforced through decorations and attendee outfits.
Sign nights were popularized by students at the University of Florida and then spread across the southeast.

Ben: Ayo Seb, are you going to Brenda’s sign night?
Seb: Yeah man, but I gotta finish my homework right now cuz it’s starting really early
Ben: yeah, they’re starting at 6pm because they wanna go out by 7:30. I think the sign reveal is at 7.

Stoptional Sign

Any stop sign located in a town with an incredibly small population in which no one is ever around. Also includes any stop sign at any location promptly after 2 a.m. If the stop sign meets one or both of the criteria, the sign is identified as stoptional and the driver is no longer lawfully obligated to stop. If he or she does so, it is only to be courteous.

Driver: It's already past curfew! There's no time to stop at this stop sign!

Passenger: Dude, chill. It's a stoptional sign.
