Two people who usually start off as acquaintances and find common ground in the most fundamental spheres so much so that all the differences between them that they discover in the course of knowing each other, stop mattering and only start drawing them further towards each other in the most amusing yet deeply rooted manner.
They then transition from becoming friends to something that put the words 'friend' and even 'best friend' to shame and effortlessly at that. Neither time, distance nor arguments of all sorts- that of a silly nature to something pretty serious, nothing can shake it off and the process of figuring out those arguments only go on to strengthen the bond that already existed.
This specific friendship includes emotions that cannot be explained, but only be felt in outbursts so strong that it hurts parts of the body that were thought to not exist. It includes a passion for togetherness which cannot be measured in any form except some sentimental and explicit emojis.
This specific friendship can survive the most grueling of circumstances and make you feel at complete 'shanti' as it gets, thus its nothing less than one in a 'mil'.
It also leads to several fights, sleepless nights but ultimately exclusive rights.
This kind of friendship is a constant.
It cannot be generalized or replicated, hence it is very specific.

Someone all your friends like so you act like you like them too even though you'd never hang out with just them. A friend of a friend who you feel obliged to invite to group gatherings so as not to offend your actual friends. Includes friend's significant others.
Yeah honey, I've invited Jerry, Dave and George, guess we better invite our collateral friend too. What's Steve's number again?

Usually when there are problems in the friendship and one doesn’t think it’ll last.
If the relationship was strong the person being dumped will go through a lot of mental pain.

Friend 1: “I feel like we are heading in different paths, our friendship won’t last in the long run.”
Friend 2: “Are you serious? Everything I’ve done for you. Where could’ve it gone wrong. I can’t believe you just friend dumped me.

an acquaintance whom you see only about four times a year, typically every three calendar months, even though you generally get along jovially. The lack of more frequent camaraderie can be due to geographic distance, a lack of deeper connection, or as is most often the case - the passage of time in what was once a closer friendship
Yea, I was going to hit the bar with my buddy this Friday. I haven't seen him in months! He's more of a once-a-season friend.

A Platonic friend of a member of the opposing gender who, for whatever reason, does not fulfill the function of a boy/girlfriend, but they go back a number of years, they can confide in each other to a limited extent, and there is an expectation that things will not turn romantic/sexual. Similar to the "work wife" or "work husband" (assuming there is no affair). Bartenders, male and female, and a lot of workers with public-facing jobs tend to have many honorary gay straight friends.
"Nikki said she would text Mikey about the shin-dig we were having."
"Why would she text his ass? I thought she was with Craig."
"They're just cool. Mikey is one of her honorary gay straight friends."
