This vulnerability, along with an androgynous style, may in fact be genuine and is the product of the fuck boys own confusion and psychological neuroses. Genuine or not, a fuck boy, like a junkie, will renege on previous promises and then act as if his behavior was intentional or innocent, depending on the circumstances.
