I’m doing better than you

After five long years, you finally catch up with your cousin. He’s casually chilling on the couch, reading a magazine. When you ask how he’s been, he gives you a smug look and says, “I’m doing better than you.” He repeats this, then sarcastically says, “No, no, no, I’m joking.” But he keeps repeating it. You start to feel bad about yourself.

Example : You: “Hey man, it’s been a while. Long time no see! What have you been up to in life?”

Cousin: “…………I’m doing better than you………..No I’m not………..Yes I am”

2. When someone is acting really dumb without knowing they are

1: “hey look at this pic I jus posted”
“Eww”
“What??!”
“You really can’t do tape”
2: your friend is acting stupid, like they forgot how to human

Relating to SCP-2316. A reinforcing statement to remind yourself that you do not recognize the bodies in the water.

If you begin to see floating corpses in the lake that resemble someone you know or have known: Repeat the phrase “I do not recognize the bodies in the water” while leaving the site. Do not attempt to make contact or try to rescue the bodies. People that enter the lake are considered lost.

John: *sees a corpse resembling the body of a childhood friend (unaware of SCP-2316)* “Oh my god I have to save him!” *John enters the lake and is now lost*

If I can make you do what I want and get away with it, why should I not?

Empathy for one. In the absence of empathy, if the amount of energy takes for you to get me to do a thing supersedes the amount of energy required for the thing to be done then it wouldn't be practical for you to make me do the thing. Additionally, my awareness of my own mortality makes it impossible for me to be perpetually made to do thing because I can always just kill myself. It incentivizes harming you and the things you care about. It gives your enemies a de-facto ally. But it's intriguing that you think that there is only one reason...

Hym "Well, for starters, there's more than one reason. Secondly, you literally can't. You can only leverage (either) my desire to live against performing the act OR the hope that I may not have to continue doing it indefinitely. Which is how you get people to stay in your suffering cult. You leverage their desire to live and their hope that their suffering will end to get them to do what you want or behave how you want to behave. It's actually kind of illuminating to because if you're God rewards screwing people over then is it not evil? Sounds evil.
