Text Delay

The event which happens during an IM or Text message when a question is asked along with a statement, resulting in a reaction to the statement and a second statement by the first person. Finally the initial question is answered and the delay causes a mix up in the conversation.

Text delays are sometimes caused by slow typers or stories that take a long time to type.

Xxx(10:33:28) wow! U guys won! Thats the hardest team in the state!

Yyy(10:35:43) oh that sucks
Xxx(10:36:12) ya. How long was the ride?

one-way text

One-Way Text (n.)
1. A text message not requiring a reply.
2. A frustrating thing to find when your phone goes off and you open it, just to see one word.
3. An annoying thing to find when your phone goes off and you open it, just to see one word--and you don't have unlimited text messaging.
4. Something that makes you want to strangle someone.
5. An indication that the sender is either tired, pissed at you, hates texting, or is just a stupid dumbass.
6. Something you do when people piss you off and you don't want to talk to them.

"You going to the movie tonight?"
"yep"

"So I totally bought an iPod today"
"cool"

"John keeps replying to my messages in one-way texts. Will you please find out if he's mad at me?"

Text Recover

When texting, an awkward attempt at using a joke to recover from a previous text in which something either stupid or awkward was said followed by no response from the reciever.

(texting)

Ashley: Omg, did you see me trip today in the hall? It was sooo embarassing :P
Mark: yeah, you looked like an idiot.
(after realizing what he said, mark was in need of a text recover)
Mark: uh I tripped one time and I fell though...

Cindy: so what are you up to this

weekend?
Jack: nothin wanna go to the dance?
(7 minutes later, no response)
Jack: yeah so I guess this girl tripped in front of like everyone today..haha..

Ass text

Texting someone back within thirty seconds of receiving a text message, or texting someone three or four times without getting a response.

"I just texted Josh once and he won't stop ass texting me!"

"I just texted McKenzie a second ago, and she's already started ass texting."

Soft Text

1. When you want to hollar at a guy / girl but not be too aggressive via text message.

2. A formal way of communicating via texting.

Let's say you meet a girl & get her number. You should probably send her a "Soft Text" before calling just to break the ice.

Or maybe you want to send a "Soft Text" to someone that your too shy to talk to

text off

When a boy calls a girl, and she responds with a text, thereby avoiding a verbal conversation but finding out what he wants. Similar to blowing someone off. Boys can do this to girls as well. It's also rampant among coworkers.

I keep getting the text off from Shelly. I don't think she wants me to ask her out!

Jimmy called me last night, but I didn't feel like having an awkward conversation so I'm going to text him off.

Dude, Sally keeps blowing up my phone. I decided to be nice and text her off instead of just ignoring her. That way it won't be weird when we see each other.
