Hating life

A phrase used in response to someone's misfortune. It could be used to offer sympathy, but more often than not it's an exclamation of malicious joy.
The phrase has dropped its possessive prefix – originally "He/She/It must be hating life!" – in order to be simplified to its current state.

When a business wants a specific employee from another business, without having to offer competitive wages or benefits, they will file complaints or false reports about the employee they want in order to get them fired from their current position. Then they won’t have to appeal to applicants with bigger incentives to work for them.
