An individual who is unbelievably good at what he does, his specialty. A person so centered on this special skill his/her lifelong pursuit that it has cost him in social skills. She/he is a bit of an oddball, nonfunctional in many other areas of their Life.

Like the TV series "Monk" would be a good fictional caricature. A more real caricature would be Stephen Hawking among the world of physicists or Carl Sagan on the cosmos. These roots have obvious beginnings in the spiritual or religious monks of the monastery only applied to modern day times.
