To drop the skittles means to accidentally come out as homosexual, or to have a friend tell others you are gay even though you wanted to keep it private.

Person 1: I dropped the skittles last night and it was very embarrassing.
Person 2: Dang, I hate it when I drop the skittles.
Person 1: Yeah, now my parents know I'm gay.
