In many anime aswell as in IRL japan the "Hip" crowd will depart from one another by saying the word "Ja"

An abbreviation for Just A Second.

used when one is very temporarily unable to communicate within an instant messenger conversation.

generally the shortest amount of time you can be away and still need to announce your absence. JAS<BRB and JAS<h/o (hold on)

1: hey where were you today?
2: (almost finished with a phone call) jas
1: aight

2: back. s'craick?
1: hey cool. where were you today?
2: who me? ah man i went home sick.
