Shortening of capslock, itself a shortening of "capital letters lock". As the usage of capital letters online often carries the connotation of yelling or screaming (which can be rude), leaving capslock on accidentally can lead to confrontation, hence "caps" to inform people that you did it by accident. I have no clue why this shit has not been added yet considering how important it is to internet etiquette.

The phrase "caps" itself can be considered a shortening of "sorry, left capslock on". "sorry, caps" is also common.

SomeOne Who Refuses To Type Normally And Must Capitalize Every Word Like Its Something Special. Gets Very Angry When People Criticize Their Ways. And If They Are Typing And Accidently Dont Capitalize Every Letter At The Beginning Of The Word, They Actually Fix It. Very Similar To OCD. Like I Am Typing Right Now

Chelsea: Hey Chrissy Whats Up?
Chrissy: Why r u such a caps whore?!
Chelsea: Shut Up! I Can Do WhatEver I Want!!!!!!!!!!! Why Do You NOT Type Every Word Like I Do?!?!

Caps Squawk

When a person types in all caps lock. This person might be hyper, jittery, excited etc. and feels the need to express through caps lock. You may feel as though they are screaming at you through the computer. It can be very annoying and aggravating. You may also feel the need to strangle the person behind the keyboard.
