You can still feel good with certain lyrics of dark pop though. You can’t really consider dark pop mainstream because of its rawness, but it still can maintain a catchy hook/chorus and appeal to a certain market.
The weeknd can be considered dark pop sometimes because of his under tones but also his steamy lyrics or hard hitting lines which some mainstream audiences may find too graphic, but isnt directly R&B.
