To protect and otherwise shield from waste/ineptness, usually after a long period of decline.

Though its better to avoid getting into a tight spot in the first place, if you're already there vancinating is good way to go.

Vancouver Hug

Smashing a wine glass and then lunging forward with it to greet a friend.

Will had to get a tetanus shot and four stitches on his lip after receiving a Vancouver Hug in his nose area. His trumpet-playing career ended that night.
