Emo is a terrible chain reaction that infects people all around the world. It starts of with someone in a mid-high class suburban society that is bored, and gets little attention. They figure; "If I become different, people will notice me." So, they start exaggerating their emotions, mostly sadness, which seems to grip most people. Eventually, they will start showing all of the symptoms of an emo. In most cases, they will by a black book, in which they draw sad pictures and write sad poetry in. Then, they will comb their hair as straight as possible, in order to achieve minimum eye contact. And finally, they will start wearing black clothing (preferably with stripes or with band pins), pierce random spots on their face and (in severe cases) start cutting their wrists.
Eventually, other people notice, and some join this crowd. Almost all the people that become emo, never change. No one knows what happens to them after college either. They somehow disapear in their own imaginary sadness. *sniff*

Get the emomug. Emo is a genre of music, a type of pop-punk music, but with a softer, more mainstream and guitar-based sound. It is NOT a type of person/style, as more commonly thought. "Emo" people can be classified under "scene", which is basically the same thing.
Friend #1: "Did you hear My Chemical Romance broke up??!!"
Friend #2: "OMG, yes! I was so depressed when I found out... they were my favourite emo band."
Friend #1: "I know... I thought you should know." *frowns* "Have you heard of All-Time-Low? They're a pop-punk band, kinda like My Chemical Romance."
Friend #2: "Yeah, I've heard of them. Thanks ____!"

Get the Emomug. Emo, over the years, has gathered a lot of different definitions. It can be used as the shortened version of emotional, emotionally unstable, emotion, etc. It also has become a genre. A lot of people have stereotyped emo, and like most stereotypes, a little of it CAN be true, but not completly. Some examples are
- All emos cut/slit their wrist
- They are always depressed
-Drama queens/kings
-Terrible with kids
There are a lot more, but these are actually a few of the least offensive I have come across. Again, there can be some truth to stereotypes, but most of it is made up.
Most 'Emos' are a bit emotionally sensitive (hence the name 'emo'), which isn't always a bad thing. They are just a little more aware of their emotions, and aren't afraid to show them. Some are. There also is a genre of music that is called Emo. This tends to get mixed up/combined with scene, goth, and punk.
