She falls in love with her neuro attending, Derek Shepherd, only to later find out he is married to Addison Montgomery-Shepherd. Derek chooses Addison over Meredith, leaving her borken yet again. She uses tequilla as comfort and has a plentiful amount of one night stands with innapropriate men. Derek soon realizes he is very much in love with Meredith and eventually leaves his wife as Meredith leaves her new boyfriend, her dogs veterinarian, Finn Dandridge. Meredith and Derek struggle to stay together constantly.
