The act of intentionally packing older electronics for a trip to the developing world in the hopes that said electronics will be stolen, forcing the traveller to replace (and therefore upgrade) said gadgets upon his return.
I might get robbed in Nairobi... it would be a shame if my second-generation Nano got lifted and I would be forced to replace with something way sweeter. I'll make that my gearmarked donation.
