On The Gripping Hand

A ternary logic used when you are dealing with three equally unpleasant alternatives rather than two; the third (gripping) hand being dominant or determinative. Expression common among sci fi geeks and computer people.

From a science fiction novel entitled "The Mote In God's Eye" where an intelligent alien race has evolved with two minor arms (with fine fingers for work) on their right and one larger (gripping) arm with three strong fingers on their left.
On the one hand, Obama's a knucklehead and I can't stand him. On the other hand, he still has a lot of people who thinks he walks on water. On the gripping hand, we only have to put up with him for two more years, so we shouldn't bother to try to impeach him.

Gripping The Cheese

Taking a minor matter and unnecessarily inflating its importance.

Comes from a fat kid grabbing rather harshly a cup of dip cheese for his fries after he realizes there is not enough on his fries.
I was driving down the road doing 30 in a 25 and this cop must have been gripping the cheese cuz he pulled me over.

When my girl told me she went to lunch with Pat from work I was gripping the cheese until i found out Pat was short for Patricia rather than Patrick.

"gripping pad"

Background: As a Fleet Risk-Control Manager in a major city, our drivers are taught to reduce their "driver reaction distance" (gas to brake time) by entering into a "preliminary pad grip," (brake pad to rotor with minor, unnoticeable contact); this is also known as "gripping pad."
Example One:

Driver: "It's not my fault I hit that truck that shot out of the mouth of that blind alley."

Fleet Safety Director: "Yea, but you should have been "gripping pad" going through there..."

Example Two:

Driver: "Don't blame me that I knocked that person down; she came out of nowhere."

Fleet Safety Director: "You should have been "gripping pad" going through there with all the people present!"

Double Gripping

Grabbing the shaft with one hand while placing the other hand above thus stroking the head as well, continuously. Special care must be taken during this procedure to ensure satisfaction and safety. Wear eye protection for stray streams. A tingling sensation may occur afterwards.

gripping grain

The act of putting one's hands upon wood grain, an often faux-wood type of molding often found in luxury automobiles, especially on the steering wheel. However, in some cases, the wood is actually real. Gripping grain is often paired with leaning to one's right while driving.
If you're driving down Peachtree Road on a saturday night, you better be gripping grain.
