Doing a Theresa

Trying to move from a good position to a best position and ending up worse off ; cf the old adage "The Best is the Enemy of the Good"

Theresa May is the UK Prime Minister whose Conservative Party had a a working majority in the UK Parliament . She tried to increase the size of that majority by calling an election on 8th June 2017. Although the largely Conservative Party supporting UK Press predicted a landslide victory she in fact ended up losing her overall majority the major oppostiion Party (Labour ) having gained 30 more seats than they held before the election. Theresa May has now lost her overall majority and is in a greatly weakened political position. Whence the expression "Doing a Theresa".

This catch phrase was often used by the 80's TV cop Sledge Hammer right before he does something that results in some sort of catastrophic event or disaster.

Captain Trunk: Sledge, you cannot disarm that nuclear bomb!

Sledge Hammer: Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

(A nuclear explosion ensues thus ending the season finale of Sledge Hammer)

A magical helm item used in Dungeons & Dragons as described by Peter Griffin. Used to seduce naughty school girls. (Other definition notes that it is a World of Warcraft item but Peter Griffin is describing Dungeons & Dragons character stats).

Lois: "Ohh I need a spanking, I'm a bad, bad girl."

Peter: "I'm a paladin with an 18 charisma and 97 hit points. I can use my helm of disintegration and do 1d4 damage as my half-elf mage wields his +5 holy avenger."

Lois: "Paladins can't use the helm of disintegration!"

Peter: "Oh... Okay, then, I'm a Black Guy."
