Desperation Debating

A move during an argument or discussion whereby a person (almost always a woman) has absolutely no comeback and knows in a fair fight they're beaten, forcing them into a totally nonsensical, unrelated Hail Mary response. This strategy occurs when the person (almost always a woman) either realizes the other person is right and it's best to try to throw them off or when they're simply an idiot.

Fred calmly explained to his wife Mandy that her continued credit card expenditures at high end department stores would likely threaten the family's ability to pay their bills, and definitely end any chance of sending their children to college. Technical Debt

Incurred by opting to do something the quick and dirty way rather than following the best practice and standard practice for the sake of obtaining a working solution in less time

Boss: I need these 4 pipeline deployments ready by next Friday.
Me: Okay, the only way I can get that done is to incur some technical debt by not following our usual process.
Boss: Understood. Lay down as much pipe as necessary to get the job done.

policy debate

An obscure cult with its own distinct language understood only by members. The members speak incredibly quickly and think even faster. They tend to also be motivated students and often exhibit a mild form of OCD.

Such debaters engage in conversation with each other on a much higher level than the average human, both in and out of round. The student government and honor roll within a school typically consist mostly of debaters. 80% of congress debated in high school.

Membership in the cult lasts from 9th grade through 12th grade and sometimes through college, but the mannerisms and knowledge gained from it manifest themselves in all aspects of the current or former debater's life for the better.

Policy debate kicks aff.

I spent all last weekend hitting people, cutting and spewing. We broke and all the judges picked me up, but this one lay judge dropped me. I also got top speaks. Now I'm going to do uniqueness updates for my disad, then cut some a2 perm cards on the counterplan and come up with a kritikal aff so I can win framework.

I finally mastered the pen flip!

A: Did you hear so-and-so got into all 7 ivy's?
B: Really? he must be a debater.

debt ceiling

A debt limit which is set by Congress and determines the absolute amount of federal debt the United States can hold.

The US Governments borrowing limit.

US stocks are sinking under the weight of the debt ceiling so it was necessary for Congress to vote to raise it, no matter what the consequences.
