The name given to the main character of a psychological thriller that just happens to have intense, casual gore. She is called a "tomboy", but in actuality, she just wears natural makeup and jeans. No one takes her trauma seriously. She either dies in the end or is tainted by the evil around her. Even though the pieces of media try to make themselves seem progressive, the viewer can't help but feel that Dani is being punished for learning to set boundaries, falling in love with who she loves, and generally becoming a more confident person.
Even with all of that, she's easy to empathize with, and often puts others before herself. She either has the most or the least character development, and she always has dirty blonde hair that is no shorter than shoulder length.
