The accuser assumes that because the practice lacks scientific validation, the practitioner must be knowingly dishonest. This ignores the possibility of sincere belief, cultural tradition, or psychological benefit. It is a form of ad hominem that replaces critique with character assassination.
Charlatanism Imputation Example: “The tarot reader had helped hundreds of clients find clarity; a skeptic’s forum declared her a charlatan without any evidence of fraud—charlatanism imputation, equating ‘not my worldview’ with ‘deliberate liar.’”
