For the sake of simplicity, let’s assume that famous means being known by 10% of an areas population (such as a country, country sub division, town, etc.) from that period (such as the renaissance or roaring twenties). Therefore, there are many types of famous. One may be famous in their family, but not globally famous. This definition is useful for when desiring to write definitions about celebrities on Urban Dictionary. If it can be assumed that at least 10% of the population of the celebrities home nation (or residing nation if they are stateless) has basic knowledge about them (knowing their name and occupation), then it is acceptable to write a definition about that celebrity.
