In Danish it means poop but in African it means baby. It's not the Internet that's taking Bae by a relationship acronym it is how they use the word by the country that defines or translates it as.
African: "This is my 16 months old bae."
Danish: "I lettin out a major amount of Bae in the toilet."

Bae means Before Anyone Else. If everyone was falling off a cliff, who would you save first? The answer to that is your bae.
Omg your bae

Is a term of endearment short for bacon and eggs. The term is used to describe your significant other, similar to but not limited to words such as hun, darling, sweetie, etc. Bae is used because it describes incredible compatibility, hence why the legendary pairing of bacon and eggs has been abreviated.
