COSCA

A cosca (Italian: ˈkɔska; pl. cosche in Italian and coschi in Sicilian), in Sicily, is a clan, gang or Sicilian Mafia crime family led by a capo. The equivalent in the 'Ndrangheta in Calabria is the 'ndrina.
The Sicilian word cosca comes from the crown of spiny, closely folded leaves on plants with a bloom in the middle such as the artichoke or the thistle, which therefore symbolises the tightness and loyalty of a family within the mafia and also protection of the boss of the family and its secrets.

Nevertheless the word cosca is nowadays not used for Sicilian mafia gangs anymore but rather for a group of people that share the same taste of a certain lifestyle and are bond together like a family.
