Licking someone is usually an friendly act and licking something is probably what a dog would do (leaving slobber on the target object).

Licks

Kick-ass chain of burger joints in the Greater Toronto Area and Southern Ontario. Puts everyone else's burgers to shame. If you're going to have a burger-and-fries meal, this is the place!

Licks is a Jamaican term for hitting or slapping someone or to dance around clicking your fingers in an excitable manner

A Jamaican man jumps with joy and clicks his fingers shouting "Licks.....Licks......Licks" after witnessing an associate or friend having been slapped or hit usually in a friendly manner
