That situation when a guy and a girl is interested in each other and its pretty obvious that they are dating, but they are too stubborn to admit that they are dating and instead just consider each other friends, meanwhile talking exclusively to each other as though they are in a relationship.

Steve: Clarissa and I are not dating. We're not in a relationship, stop saying we are.

Joe: Okay bro. Ya'll fating right now.
Steve: Fating?
Joe: Yeah, ya'll acting like ya'll just friends, but really ya'll dating man. Quit playing bro. But since ya'll aint trying to act like you are dating, ya'll fating.

Steve: Doesn't even make sense.
Joe: F for friends. ating for dating. Telling people you aren't dating, but acting like ya'll are.

Fating

When you carve out time for a person and use your dating status towards a greater purpose and cause - fake + dating, purely so you can have time with each other through being very popular and having a very full social life, i.e. things like doing errands, babysitting together, taking each other off of the market to fend off toxic masculinity and toxic feminity at bars and the pub, especially in the circumstance where either one or both person's partner is dead, missing in action, too young to date or just otherwise wants you to spend time with them, maybe even in their stead. It's also a relationship that is openly known to the public, and to society. Ironic for superstitious people who talk about the fates aligning in a sense where they're so psychotic you don't even get to hang out with your friends.

Amelia and I are fating because that's how bad it got but, you know, I love spending time with her.
