The term "crucial" is used in situations that pop up that are more serious than others, kind of in a way nodding to the actual definition of the word (necessary) with a slight difference. Usually used after the word "that's" to signify importance to the subject. Sometimes it fits very well into context despite the unorthodox usage.
"That 3 pointer by Kyrie in the finals was so crucial"

" You got an iPhone 7 but didn't bring the thing for the aux? Damnnn that's crucial"
