Scrollgret

Scrollgret
noun | scroll-gret | \ˈskrōl-ˌgret\
The soul-crushing combination of regret, shame, and existential dread that washes over you when you finally look up from your phone and realize you've just burned 3 hours of your life scrolling through an infinite void of content you won't remember in 5 minutes. Usually accompanied by dry eyes, a dead phone battery, thumb cramps, and the horrifying realization that you've somehow scrolled back to posts from 2019.
Symptoms include:
Checking the time and audibly gasping, no memory of the last 47 reels, your charger looking like Mount Everest, suddenly remembering productive things you ignored, Gollum neck pain, reading 84 stranger comment arguments.
Usage notes:
Peak hours: 1-4 AM. Common platforms: TikTok, Instagram Reels, Twitter/X, Reddit. Often leads to downloading screen time apps you'll ignore within 24 hours.
Related terms: doom-scrolling, phone zombie, algorithm prisoner, content coma
Scrollgret scale:
Level 1: Lost 20 minutes
Level 5: Lost 2 hours, phone at 3%
Level 10: Sun's up, can't feel thumbs, one with the algorithm
Example sentences:
"Dude, I had the worst scrollgret last night. Told myself 'just 5 minutes' on Instagram before bed, next thing I know it's 4 AM and I'm watching a guy in Bangladesh fix motorcycles."
"The scrollgret is real when you open TikTok at a red light and suddenly you're in your driveway with no memory of the drive home."
"Nothing hits like scrollgret when you realize you scrolled through your ex's cousin's best friend's vacation photos from 2 years ago at 2 AM instead of finishing your work presentation."
