When followers of a particular belief or idea split off into a fringe group that creates a spin-off idea of the original idea. Over time, the followers of the fringe group convince themselves that the original idea was never real or had never existed. Many conspiracy theories that began on 4chan as memes, spiraled into these fallacies

The Flat Earth movement picked up steam after many users of meme discussion board experienced the Fight Club Effect and lost their sense of reality within the joke

When a song is so terrible that it becomes eerily catchy, putting you under somewhat of a spell causing you bob your head

This can also happen when listening to artists such as Lil B, V-Nasty, and OJ Da Juiceman

The Rebecca Black Effect is the reason why lil b has 50,000,000 views on youtube, and why "Friday" arguably the worst song released in the history of music have gained so much attention recently.

Third Quarter Effect

The natural increase of homework and difficulty in classes throughout the year, peaking near the end of the third quarter. This is due to the increase in difficulty of the curriculum and the compilation and compounding of concepts. The peak comes before review for finals, when the last few sections of material for class are given to students.
Also, many projects and term papers are given or due near the third quarter peak.

My grades gradually dropped as a result of the third quarter effect this year.

I can't get into college because the third quarter effect ruined my GPA!

The Gwen Stefani Effect

The strange sensation one may feel when an object, person, or concept they hadn't considered for a very long time suddenly crops up at several moments in the same day, or across a very brief period of time.

It often gives the impression that one is being 'followed around' by the entity in question, and several philosophical debates have been raised as to whether the frequency of the sightings is increased as a result of a universal anomaly, or simply the fact that being re-exposed to the object makes one more susceptible to perceive it in daily life.

Named for the first recorded instance, involving Gwen Stefani.

"Oh my gosh, it's The Gwen Stefani Effect. I hadn't thought about Silverchair for so many years, but I just heard them on the radio and my friends mentioned them at school today! Am I being followed?"

Oscillating Potcham Effect

Often likened to Karma, this is the rare linking of two peoples fortunes (or karma) so that when one is up, the other is down. Often in context of sexual exploits or progress with the opposite sex. Often refered to as the OP Effect.
