A remake of the 1988 JRPG Dragon Quest III released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC in November 2024. In the months leading up to its release, the game became controversial for its censorship of the late Akira Toriyama's character designs and the removal of gendered terms when referring to the protagonist. Upon release, the game sold moderately well but was poorly received by many fans of the series due to the aforementioned changes.
