The royal family adopted "Happy Christmas" as their preferred greeting, and others took note (in fact, each year, Queen Elizabeth continued to wish her citizens a "Happy Christmas," rather than a merry one). But "Merry Christmas" has been used since at least 1534.

Get the happinessmug. This is what you say on April 20th, otherwise known as 4/20 day. Frequently used as a greeting between stoner friends on this special day of the year. Also customary to share a 'jay' on this historical date. "Happy Holijays" is also appropriate.
