The Curse of the Tumblogger

A curse that affects those who Blog on Tumblr. They stay on Tumblr, refreshing their dashboard in hopes of another post, until early morning hours. But when they finally go to bed, they are plagued with the thought of what their Night Blogging Tumblr Friends would be posting. They will not be able to sleep because of these thoughts and will wake up as sleep deprived zombies, but this is cured by another dose of Tumblr, which starts the cycle again.

Non-Tumblogger: Holy Shit, what happened to you?
Tumblogger: Need... Tumblr...
Non Tumblogger: DUDE WAKE UP
Tumblogger: Can't... Need... Tumblr... Dashboard... Night blogging... posts... funny...

Non-Tumblogger: WAKE UP
Non-Tumblogger 2: Leave him be, it's The Curse of the Tumblogger. He'll be fine once he gets on the computer.

Tumblr curse

A term for the seemingly ubiquitous trend on Tumblr where character’s skin colors tend to be drawn with noticeably different physical characteristics, like being more fat or dark-skinned, than they actually are in canon by Tumblr artists. The reason for this is unknown, but the most common hypothesis is that the artists on Tumblr subconsciously make the characters look more like themselves, such as being overweight, of being the main cause behind this phenomenon. Some of the more famous examples of this trend being franchises that are very popular with Tumblr users like Steven Universe and Harry Potter, due to their character’s being very fast and loose with physical description, making it very easy for Tumblr artists to insert their own ideas of what characters look like, even though Tumblr artists often ignore the very few distinctive physical characteristics given to them in canon.

Alice: Hey Bob, why did this artist make Ronald Weasley really overweight in this fanart, despite him being described as “tall, thin, and gangling” in the book?
Bob: Must be the Tumblr curse.

The Programmer's Curse

When learning a new language, unless your first working sample is "Hello World" you will be cursed and will struggle to use that language for anything useful.

I was learning Ruby on Rails but because I didn't start with a "Hello World" example, I've been struggling with it from Day One.

Bob: "Hey, Jim. I can't seem to understand why my Ruby on Rails project just won't work."
