Socks Is a common name for a dog. A dog called Socks is usually called Socks due to the dog's lower legs being a different colour to the rest of the dog's body.

My dog is called Socks because it's body is black and it's lower legs are white. This makes it look like my dog is wearing white socks resulting in it's name.
