Hokkaidu Inu is dog themed ERC-20 memecoin that launched in 2021, also know as HOKK. The coin rose to prominence after the developer sent 50% of the supply to Vitalik, leading the token to reach close to 1 Billion market cap evaluation. Only for Vitalik to sell everything 30 days later. The massive fall lead to chaos, and opportunistic leeches attempting to take control over the brand eventually abandoned HOKK for a failed V2 contract.

The V1 contract laid dormant for years, however in January 27th 2024, 4chan found the project, enamored by the backstory, and the potential for redemption, users began a community revival of the original contract, turning HOKK into an OG meme of the board in /biz/ and /bant/.
