Linux in '96

Linux in '96 - A reference to the usability of the Linux Operating System in a particular year that is used to describe the usability of something else (often other Open Source software). For example, Chris C Kemp has compared the usability of the OpenStack cloud software to Linux in 1996. May be humorously applied to unrelated items with a user experience component.

Linux

1. An operating system kernel originally created by Linus Torvalds. The Linux kernel is often bundled with GNU software, and this combination is known as GNU/Linux.
2. (colloquially) Any of the many desktop and server operating systems built on top of the Linux kernel, commonly bundled with a package manager and handy preloaded software. ChromeOS is commonly excluded, as the system is extremely locked down, unlike the typical desktop Linux distribution.
1. Nobody had written a Linux driver for my fingerprint reader, so I had to take matters into my own hands.
2. "Wait, you use Linux?", I inquired. "Yes," he replied, "I use Arch BTW."

Linux distro maker

This is who you are when you feel like you've developed an entirely new OS (operating system) even though you just made a new distro for Linux OS.
After spending all weekend tweaking settings and packaging my own Linux distro, I felt like I've developed an entirely new OS — even though I'm just a Linux distro maker.
