Coined by Tom Merritt during TWiT Live (live.twit.tv)'s syndication of G4's Microsoft E3 2010 media briefing.

The video game equivalent of lipsyncing. Typically occurs at major events such as E3, where a game is being demonstrated on-stage. Since it'd be pretty boring to just watch gameplay at E3 (almost as boring as having Britney Spears actually sing at a concert), they put someone on stage to pretend to play.

Raises the stupid level by tenfold.

E3 Audience Member #1: That guy is totally thumbsyncing.
E3 Audience Member #2: Yeah, it's so obviously that guy isn't actually playing. He isn't even moving his thumbs!

Form of shorthand used when sending text messages on cell phones.

Thumbtext is critical in order to efficiently communicate with someone when trying to type words on a keypad that uses 8 keys to sum up the entire alphabet.

When you're driving on the freeway, there just isn't time to type out all the letters of every word. Thumbtext is the solution.

An even more time-efficient way to communicate is to use that keypad's numeric characters to enter a person's phone number then hit the TALK/SEND key.
