Use the Source, Luke

A programmer's joke meaning you should read the source code. It is also a Star Wars themed pun on Obi-Wan Kenobi's "Use the Force, Luke!"
A short form of this is UTSL.
"Most people who come here for help do know how to read the source code. In case they can't, I tell them what to do. If they can, though, what I usually say is 'Use the Source, Luke!'."

consider the source

another way of saying that any information recieved from a certain source can't be taken seriously because that source has been wrong before, or lacks credibility.
"hey did you hear Elvis is still alive?? he was seen at a casino in vegas last week! actually they say he's even the owner!!"

"get out! where'd you hear that from?"

"oh I read it in the enquirer."

"hah! I should have known."

"what, you mean you don't believe it??"

"are you kidding?? I mean, come on...consider the source already!"

Lost in the source

When you check something online and end up going from one interesting source to another and surfing through a lot more information than you originally intended.
"I was just checking the population of the Republic of Ireland last night on Wikipedia, and one thing led to another and I think I can break down the eight-hundred year conflict between Ireland and Britain now, also I learned how to create and cook in a prehistoric Fullacht Fiadh that was used in the Bronze Age in Ancient Ireland, and did you know that millions of years ago the North-West and South-East of Ireland were separated and situated in completely different parts of the world with drastically different climates, and were you aware that one of the oldest Irish mythological figures, Cessair, was supposedly a descendent of Noah, the same one who had the ark, and Halloween most likely comes from the original pagan festival of Samhain which used to take place in Ireland to ensure a good harvest, and they would have carved turnips as opposed to pumpkins, oh, and did you ever hear about the time that Irish and German soldiers took over Rio de Janeiro in 1828? Yeah... I might have gotten lost in the source... wait a minute - my assignments are due in twenty minutes!"

source code

Definitions vary accordingly to the amount of time spent working on the source code:

-Structured, logical text document destined to be compiled to create a piece of computer software.

-Structured text document refusing to be compiled to create a piece of computer software.

-Stupid text document refusing to be compiled to create an elusive piece of computer software.

-Why won't this fucking piece of shit compile correctly for fuck's sake.

-Text document stored on the hard drive of a computer found smashed in the street.
Bill asked me to remove those annoying bugs for the next version of Windows, but the source code is all fucked.

open-source

Software that has a source code available to the public.

Giving the public the ability to modify, improve, and fix the program itself. Allowing the creator of the program to not have to find a way to fix the program himself and allowing more patches and improvements to the software.

Also allowing the public to be able to port the program onto other operating systems, so that dual-booters who can program will make a windows version of an awesome GNU/Linux/BSD/Solaris program.

My Slackware has the linux source code locate in "/usr/src/linux". I compile my own linux kernal to fit my needs of my computer. Take that M$!

Counter Strike Source

A remake, using the Source graphics engine, of the highly popular game Counter Strike. The game is very controversial amongst gamers because hardcore players of the original Counter Strike refuse to acknowledge it because of the changes the development team made such as bigger hitboxes, lower powered weapons and the dirty AWP scope..
