meTABolism

Refers to how rapidly a bar-patron pays his bill.

Alan Jackson may indeed love his "tall and strong" alcoholic creations while playing hooky in Margaritaville, but at least his meTABolism is in good order ("I could pay off my tab"), along with his responsibility about not driving while impaired ("Pour myself in a cab"), so that is a good thing. Just be sure that you keep your boat between the navigational beacons, Alan.

Refers to either (1) how quickly/effectively a particular person's bloodstream processes the sugary cocktail from soft drinks, or (2) how rapidly a bar-patron pays his bill.

T1D (Type 1 diabetes mellitus) It’s kinda like you drive an automatic, but I gotta clutch (test my blood sugar) and shift (inject or infuse insulin) if I wanna go (eat).

Thermodynamical Metabolism

Essentially the same as Metabolical Thermodynamics, but from the opposite perspective: using living metabolism as the prime example to study and test non-equilibrium thermodynamic theories. It's the physics department's approach, where the cell is the most fascinating heat engine in the universe—a self-repairing, replicating machine that temporarily and locally battles entropy. Life becomes the ultimate case study for how complex order can emerge from energy flow.

Example: "The physics colloquium on 'Thermodynamical Metabolism' described a human as a 'walking dissipative structure.' We exist to turn ordered chemical energy into heat and waste, accelerating universal entropy in a beautifully complex way. It was the most profound and depressing description of lunch ever."
