A term that refers to somebody who is sexually attracted to more than one
gender.
This term is scientifically dubious at best, considering the fact that '
gender' is defined as the sexual identity a person has chosen to assume, but a sexual identity cannot create a sexual attraction. According to biology, human beings become attracted to each other as a result of their hormonal interaction. Obviously, concepts like 'gender roles' or 'gender' are not hormonal.
In a purely biological context, which is the only context in which sexual attraction exists, polysexual is just another term for somebody who is
bisexual (able to be attracted to
men as well as women), regardless of the societal role those
men and women take.
While in high
school, Jane found out that she was polysexual: attracted to both
men and women, and to multiple genders. She found the generally more warm, emotional and caring nature of women to attract her just the same as
men or any others.
