Colloquially refers to a person who lends money or provides financial support, akin to how an ATM (Automated Teller Machine) dispenses cash. This term highlights the expectation that the individual will be readily available to provide funds when needed.
Whenever I'm short on cash, I jokingly call my friend the ATM, knowing I can count on him to lend me money.
