When in a light-hearted conversation, banter is necessary. Charlie banter is the process of a very unwitty, serious comeback to the other party's statement.

When two or more people trade degrading remarks in an attempt to discourage or frighten one another. The more common terminology is "shit talkin", though "fecal banter" has a more sophisticated ring to it.
