"Lol" means 'laugh out loud' but we all know we're never actually laughing out loud when we texring someone. So now the use of lol has just expanded into the meaning of "the end of the conversation". Or when you just need to stop someone from saying something you don't ant your girl/boy to know.
Dawson: Hey, did Kaitie find out?
Me: No, Lol
Kaitie: Wait, find out WHAT?!?!
Dawson: Curtis said he sle-
Me: I said Lol
Dawson: I know bu-
Me: LOL!!
Me: No, Lol
Kaitie: Wait, find out WHAT?!?!
