A place that is called a TRAP by anyone that has moved out.
Most people stay due to family obligations, but admit that they are stuck and can't leave without pissing off other "TRAPPED" people.
Great geography, but horrible infastructure. What city street this week is under construction and what bridge is stuck in the up position.
There is no work, so people drink. There is 49 bars, but not ONE industry that supports them. The useless people frequent these bars.
City Hall is called the Roche Bar, and to be honest it's the best place in the damn town.
How is it that this city, year after year and decade after decade is stuck behind the times. If you left PH in 2001 and came back now, the entire downtown looks the same.
And why hasn't someone dumped some money into the dump known as McMorran? Cause the entire place is a dump.
IF you are lucky enough to live there and go to college, let's hope school blesses you with enough sense to move south for work.
How's the 8 weeks of summer treating you all up there? I'll tell you that the 9 months of Summer down here sure is nice and there is jobs galore.

Get the La Portemug. THE disgrace of the late 20th century and early 21st century. Port Power or "The Power" as their supporters* call them are the worst AFL team to have ever played the game. With the ugliest colours (black, teal and white) on their guernsey, even for a complete foreigner to the game would go for Port's opponent.
*Port Supporters: Feral, either absolutely no teeth or (in rare cases 1 or 2), severely outnumbered in their home state to the Adelaide Crows supporters. Also, Port supporters are known to be a part of many incestial abuse reports.

Get the Glider Portmug. 1) A now cancelled soap opera set in Port Charles, NY which featured vampires who didn't sparkle and angels sent to stop them. It was cancelled due to poor ratings and causing overall confusion in it's viewers. It was a spin off of General Hospital
2) The fictional city where the soap opera General Hospital takes place. It is crime ridden, has a high child mortality rate, and it overall a bad place to live.

1) I wish that Port Charles was still on air. Caleb and Livie were hot!
2) Sonny Corinthos lives in Port Charles New York.

Get the Port Charlesmug. Typical example of a small post-industrial wasteland town in upstate NY. As usual in the Hudson Valley region, their claim to fame is the long-forgotten era in which steam trains serviced the area. The symbol of the town is a romanticized depiction of a steam train running beside the town and most of their commemorative signs reference railroad tracks, railway bridges and old mule canals that were (yes, you guessed it) converted to railroad tracks.
The population is shielded from surrounding areas despite being a crossroads between three states. Most people have never been to NYC and there are some that barely visit neighboring towns.
Stores are essentially nonexistent, and the grimaces you receive when visiting the few remaining ones leave no mystery as to why this is. If you're not some longtime resident of 30 years, generally the response is one of suspicion and fear. Barring a Rite Aid and deficient Sav-A-Lot, the town is barren. There are a couple of quaint places to get ice cream if that outdated 1950s family atmosphere is desired.
The judicial system is corrupt, with two judges who also function as private attorneys complete with websites soliciting business and all. So unless you pay one to represent you in front of the other, there is automatic bias. The police are typical of a bad neighborhood, always constantly suspecting everyone under 60 years old of wrongdoing.

Car driver: "Let's stop off and get some gas and food at this exit, says 'Port Jervis'"
Passenger: "Google says all the gas, food and shopping for this exit is in Montague, NJ and showing really nothing toward this Port Jervis place."
